Ex-Anderlecht and Socceroo great Krnecvic returns to South Melbourne
Former Socceroo star striker Eddie Krncevic has returned to take over the coaching reins at FIFA team of the century South Melbourne.
This is Krncevic's second stint at the Albert Road Club having coached them previously back in the NSL. Krncevic also coached Carlton SC and Marconi in the late 90's and early 2000's.
As a player Krncevic was the pioneer in blazing a trail for Australians into Europe and had a star-studded career with Anderlecht in Belgium.
Krncevic replaces New Zealand international Vaughan Coveny as head coach while Coveny's former assistant Joseph Montemurro has been asked to stay on by Krncevic. Montemurro has just returned from the prestigious Italian Football Federation coaching course at Coverciano.
Krncevic told tribalfootball.com: "I am deeply honored to be back at South Melbourne. And I have a very clear mandate to return to South Melbourne to the top of the game both here in Australia and internationally.
“We are competing in the Singapore Cup quarter finals next month and I want to go all the way and win that Cup,” he added.
“The Club has something else on the international scene that they are planning for 2011 so we have so much to get excited about. The squad I have inherited should really be strong enough along with a few quality additions to be very successful.”

***** eddie and stay out of our club u rat
Matt if you can't add something positive then burry your head in the sand. Your comment is indicative of your narrow mindedness and lack of understanding of the game and sport in general. You do not have to be in the A league either now or within a short time to re establish St Melb in Australia or world wide as an exciting football brand known for quality fair play and whatever the new coach has in mind. It is possible and i look forward to the new coach taking the club to where it could and should be, and Eddie can do it.
How can South Meblourne reach the top of Australia? the A-league isnt expanding anytime soon in melbourne again mate, and the FFA Cup still seems a long way off
