Former AC Milan scout Giovanni Gullo admits he urged management to sign Mohamed Salah two years ago.
The Chelsea winger has been in sensational form for Fiorentina since his January loan move.
Gullo recalled to Calciomercato.com: "I was in Berne, in May of 2013, to see Young Boys-Basel. Salah played only the last half hour but he impressed me a lot.
"Of course he was not an unknown player, because at that time he had already played in the Champions League, but from that game I realized one thing above all: that Salah could have done very well in Italy.
"I sent a report to Milan reporting this thing and describing his technical and tactical ability.
"And the same things I repeated some time later, when I was interviewed by an Egyptian TV on transfer of Salah from Basel to Chelsea!"
