Evra: Vidic and I were hooked for first Man Utd game - and it was the reserves!

Patrice Evra is sad to see Nemanja Vidic leave Manchester United.

Vidic says farewell to the Old Trafford crowd tonight against Hull City.

Evra, who joined United at the same time as Vidic, believes the centre back's departure will leave a huge hole at the club.

The French ace said: "I am really sad because when you speak about Nemanja it's like you are speaking about myself because we joined the club together.

"I remember our first game. It was so hard and the one game we played in the reserves - me and him - we were so poor and Rene (Muelensteen) was the manager and he took us both out of the match and we were playing with the reserve team!

"We were talking together in the dressing room and saying 'oh my god, why have we come to Manchester United? We should go quickly back to our clubs'.

"It was a difficult moment I remember, but we stuck together. We have been in the same hotel, we go into training together and we have won the same trophies.

"For me I am really sad to lose the rock because for me I call him 'the rock'.

"Thanks to him because I play alongside him and for me he was a great centre back. It is sad to lose one player like that.

"When you see a player like Nemanja Vidic is leaving this club you feel really sad. He doesn't talk too much about his business and you have to respect that - but losing Vida is painful."
