Evra: Man Utd have overachieved this season given injuries

Patrice Evra believes Manchester United have overachieved this season, given their injury record.

Evra, 28, admits that being a ­Manchester United player brings with it the responsibility of ­winning trophies every season.

He said: “Being a Manchester United player is all about winning. Every year I have been at Old ­Trafford, I have won two or three trophies. For me, that has become normal. So, if we weren’t to win trophies, then to me it would feel like I hadn’t done my job properly.

“Now, I have only the ­mentality to win.

“We’ve been criticised this season but I am proud of where we are in the Premier League and to be in the final of the ­Carling Cup and last 16 of the Champions League.

“I don’t believe that any other team would be in the same ­position, having missed so many defenders all ­season.”

At varying times, United have been without keeper Edwin van der Sar, full-backs Gary Neville and John O’Shea and ­central defenders Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans and Wes Brown through ­injury.

But Evra has been one of United’s most consistent ­performers and has enhanced his status as one of the world’s top left- backs.

And he said: “We fear nobody. What we need to do now is to keep a winning mentality and all that ­matters is what we achieve at the end of the season.”
