Evra determined to keep Man Utd spot

Patrice Evra is determined not to lose his place as Manchester United's first-choice left-back.

Evra's stranglehold on the position at Old Trafford has strengthened considerably in recent weeks.

It means Jonny Evans, who has yet to make a senior appearance for the Red Devils, is currently Evra's only obvious competition and even then, the Northern Ireland international is more comfortable at centre-half.

"Last year I did well," said the former Monaco defender.

"But football is like a pyramid. You need to stay at the top all the time.

"This season is very important for me because I want to confirm what I did last year. It is not a case of playing like Cristiano (Ronaldo), I just need to do my job properly."
