Everton physio Mick Rathbone insists defender Joseph Yobo will be fit for the start of preseason training.

The Nigeria international withdrew from the Super Eagles squad for the match against Niger last weekend and his decision sparked rumours regarding the player's participation for the forthcoming campaign.

"Joseph came in last week in-between international games to see us," Rathbone told evertonTV.

"He fell on his back while playing for Nigeria and we were somewhat concerned so we decided for Joe's good that he should rest now for the remainder of June.

"We're confident he will be fine in time for the start of pre-season."
