Everton striker James Vaughan insists there was nothing "malicious" in the tackle which led to his dismissal against Chicago Fire this week - and a blast from gaffer Dave Moyes.

"I ended up mistiming it and going over the ball with two feet," Vaughan told the club's official website.

"It was an accident and there was nothing malicious in it. I am just glad I didn't seriously hurt the player."
