Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has earmarked promising Everton defender John Stones to become a star of the future for England.

Stones has proven his worth as a top quality centre-back with his performances for the Toffees in recent times and the maturity the young man has shown is certainly impressing many.

Even legendary midfielder Scholes has been left gushing over Stones' ability and has now backed the 20-year old to become an important member of the England national team in the coming years.

Writing in his column for the London Evening Standard, the former United star stated: 'Looking at the England team, there are some players that stand out, and none more for me than John Stones. I really like the look of this defender, even though he did not have the best game at the Riverside on Monday.

'He looks quick and strong and I like the way he steps out from the back four with the ball. You need to have good ability to do that at international level and he clearly does.'
