Everton's Pienaar hits back at 'fake injury' claims

Steven Pienaar is set for a three week lay-off following the African Cup of Nations and the on-loan Everton midfielder is furious at suggestions he has faked the problem.

Scans are due on the ankle injury but the player expects to be missing for a few weeks as Everton continue their charge for a Champions League place next season.

It has been suggested that Pienaar exaggerated the injury following his country's poor showing but the Borussia Dortmund midfielder has reacted angrily to such claims.

"This is just nonsense. I am injured and will be out for three weeks," Pienaar is quoted in the Liverpool Daily Post.

"I am not that stupid and I don't care what anybody says. I was having a good tournament and would have loved to play."
