Everton midfielder Lee Carsley has rubbished the "one game at a time" mantra that comes at this time of the season.

As the Blues battle for European qualification, Carsley told evertonTV: "I think everyone says that we will take every game as it comes, but I am definitely not! I'm trying to work out where we're going to win and where we're going to pick points up. So I think anyone who says that they are taking each game at a time is exaggerating."

A top five finish will guarantee a return to Europe - something Carsley believes is essential.

He adds: "I think we need it. I think we deserve it and I think that we're at the stage now where we can cement ourselves as a top six club and with that comes the Uefa Cup."
