Everton's AWOL Yakubu: Moyes was very angry

Yakubu Aiyegbeni has revealed the extent of David Moyes' anger at his late return to Everton following the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Nigeria striker went AWOL from Goodison Park for five days after the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana and was fined two weeks' wages.

And Yakubu has revealed the level of Everton boss Moyes' anger but insists that the matter, which he claims was due to personal reasons, is now in the past.

"The gaffer was very angry," Yakubu told the Liverpool Echo. "I have to thank the players because they were behind me.

"They gave me support. I apologised to them all and I'm so pleased it is all over. It was just personal reasons why I never turned up, that's all.

"I have spoken to the manager and now it is over. I think the players were glad to see me back.

"It is good to be in a team where you know the players want you and they make you feel important. I have to thank them for being behind me."
