Everton's Arteta: We can beat Man Utd

Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta is ready to beat Manchester United - and break into the Spain squad.

The 25-year-old Arteta said: "If you are going to beat United then you have to play one of your best matches of the year, but we are ready for it.

"If we want to climb the table we can't afford to drop points at home - even if we are playing the Premier League champions."

The Toffees lost 4-2 in the corresponding fixture last season, but have started the current campaign strongly and sit third in the league.

"Morale is high in the squad and that's one of our secrets," Arteta added. "We are hopeful that this can be our year, but none of the players are getting too carried away and we're just taking it game by game."

Everton are currently level on points with league leaders Liverpool, and much of their success so far has been down to a series of eye-catching performances from Arteta - Everton's player of the season last year.

He said: "Personally, I'm happy with my game. If I continue to improve and things go well at Everton then I have one main goal - to go to Euro 2008 with Spain."
