Everton's Arteta: Spain coach never spoken to me

Mikel Arteta has revealed that he has never even spoken to Spain coach Luis Aragones as the campaign for him to be recognised at international level grows.

The Everton midfielder has been impressive form for The Toffees over the past two years, but has not received a look-in for Spain.

Despite having scouts constantly watching the Spanish players in the Premier League, Aragones has not been in contact with Arteta throughout his time in charge.

"I have never had the chance to talk to Luis Aragones," Arteta told EFE.

"Obviously, I would love to play for the national team.

"One of my strongest desires that I have is to one day be called up and see if I am capable of playing at that level or not.

"Whether I am closer or further away, well, I think the journalists talk about that more, but I am realistic.

"What I have to do is try every day to improve and to wait for my chance and hope that it comes along."
