Everton's Arteta holds out Spain hopes

Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta admits he harbours ambitions of cracking Spain's Euro2008 squad.

"I would love to go," said Arteta. "For me it would be one of the best things to happen in my career so I'm really looking forward to it, but I know it will be hard.

"Everton is not as known as three or four other teams in the Premier League but it doesn't matter.

"I've said many times I'm very happy here and if I can go away and play for my country that's just a bonus.

"The only thing I can try to do is help Everton to become a better club and have good performances and then wait and see what happens in the summer.

"But I will just keep working here every day because I'm pleased to be here."
