Everton youth chief Irvine: Man Utd '92 generation an inspiration

Everton academy chief Alan Irvine admits Manchester United's famous 1992 team inspired him to get serious about his coaching.

Irvine now runs Everton's youth setup after a spell away as Preston North End manager.

“I was very fortunate in that my first experience as a coach was to take a team to Old Trafford to play against the class of ‘92," he told the Liverpool Echo.

“They inspired me. I thought ‘That’s the way I want to see teams playing’. They had great individuals but they played as a team.

“I saw the Beckhams, Scholes and the rest develop from fantastic youth players into fantastic reserve players then onwards and upwards."
