Everton defender Tyias Browning has welcomed the Premier League's new U21 competition.
The idea of the new system is to make it more competitive by placing the onus on emerging talent, with just three overage players allowed per team.
"I think by making it more about young pros who are trying to make their mark and get on in the game then it will definitely make it more competitive," Browning told evertonfc.com.
"Sometimes reserve team football maybe isn't too exciting for older lads who have played a lot of it over the years, while young players obviously want to impress and show what they can do.
"I know that Alan Stubbs and the coaches are taking it very seriously and have made it clear they want to do well this season."
