Everton young gun Duffy to replace Villa’s Dunne in RoI squad

Everton defender Shane Duffy has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad following the injury to Aston Villa’s Richard Dunne.

Dunne is expected to spend about eight weeks on the sidelines with a broken collarbone sustained in the 1-0 loss to Manchester City yesterday and Duffy is that man to replace him ahead of the February 29 friendly with the Czech Republic.

20-year old Duffy was born in Northern Ireland and represented that national team at junior level up until U21 before switching allegiances to the Republic for whom he has played at both U19 and U21 level.
