Newcastle United midfielder Alan Smith is attracting transfer interest.
The Sunday Sun says Smith's lack of games has alerted long-standing admirers Everton, while Wolves are also keeping a close eye on the tough-tackling midfielder's status after he was knocked out of the team by the emergence of Ivory Coast star Cheick Tiote.
The 29-year-old is an influential member of the dressing room, but is unlikely to settle for the odd Carling Cup cameo if his absence from the starting XI is a prolonged one.
"We'd never let Alan go. He started the season very well and he would probably argue he's been unlucky to lose his place in the team," Toon boss Chris Hughton told the Sunday Sun. "Possibly that is true. But he keeps pushing and he's not a player that we will sell or let go of."
