EVERTON v LIVERPOOL RECAP: Rodgers out after Toffees hold Reds

Everton and Liverpool drew 1-1 in the 225th Merseyside derby on Sunday.

The Toffees took it right up to their neighbours at Goodison Park and could have counted unlucky not to land all three points.

However, it was the Reds who went ahead in the 41st minute when Danny Ings made an impact in his first derby of this nature when heading home James Milner's cross with Everton keeper Tim Howard seemingly stuck to the turf.

Roberto Martinez's men were able to equalise in stoppage time of the first half when Romelu Lukaku pounced on a botched clearance from Emre Can to fire home for his fifth of the season.

There were chances in the second half but neither side were able to find a winner, which lead to the sacking of Brendan Rodgers from his post as Liverpool manager.

Everton sit 13th on the table following the draw while the Reds sit 10th after a less-than-impressive beginning.
