Everton striker Saha has Moyes gushing

Everton striker Louis Saha hit a superb double as they defeated West Ham United 3-1 yesterday.

Saha's crucial late brace capped a stunning fightback by Everton who appeared to have settled for defeat after Jack Collison had given West Ham the lead in the 63rd minute.

But a header by Joleon Lescott, from Saha's cross, seven minutes from time sparked an amazing turn-around with Saha supplying further goals in the 85th and 87th minutes.

"He is a top talent," said Moyes. "He has not missed a day's training since we signed him.

"If he can continue to get goals then it will help him and us. He is on a two-year contract and signing him was a bit of a 'no-brainer' for us. The only question was his fitness. I think it was a little bit of a gamble as we've tried not to sign too many players with an injury record.

"We tried to get the best value for money in the summer as we needed a striker and Louis was worth the gamble."

Moyes revealed that Mikel Arteta had played the whole game despite being ill before the match and Tim Cahill struggled throughout the 90 minutes with foot injury.

"We got a result we didn't look like getting," admitted Moyes. "Mikel was terribly ill before the game but we wanted to keep him on because he can create a goal.

"Tim is struggling with an injury to the sole of a foot and at one point he was hobbling. But again I kept him on. We were resilient and stuck at and were looking for something to happen.

"Joleon's goal gave us that but West Ham played very well in the first half. But in this game you have to take your chances when you get them."
