Everton striker Rooney wants special clause in DC United deal

Everton striker Wayne Rooney is on the brink of signing for DC United.

The Liverpool Echo says Rooney could be confirmed as a DC United player as early as Monday claim reports.

And it is also believed that the former England captain has insisted on a clause which would allow him to return to Goodison Park at a later date to take up a coaching role.

Rooney, set to leave the Blues for a second time just 12 months after returning, has previously spoken of his desire to coach in the Everton academy when his playing career draws to a close.

It is a path his schoolboy idol Duncan Ferguson followed and earlier this year Rooney said: ''The main thing I want to have a go at is management, I would love to stay at Everton in a coaching role or hopefully manager one day."

The player still has to apply for a US visa to be able to play in the MLS, with a targeted debut at home on July 15th against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
