Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin admits he's still pinching himself over a "whirlwind year".
Calvert-Lewin signed for the Club from Sheffield United on deadline day last August and quickly forced his way into Ronald Koeman's first-team squad.
He played the entire 90 minutes of the Goodison victory over Mark Hughes's Stoke.
He crowned a promising individual performance by sending over the cross that Rooney headed past Jack Butland to settle the game in the Blues' favour.
“It's been a whirlwind year but I'm looking to kick on as far as possible and as best as possible," Calvert-Lewin told evertontv.
“It's a great start for myself to be in the starting XI on the first day of the season, so I'm just going to look to build on that and keep on improving.
“We've had competitive games under our belts. The lads have had a few 90 minutes, we were ready for Saturday and I think it showed in the team."
