Everton star Stones reads the game so well - Barnsley striker Winnall

Barnsley striker Sam Winnall has revealed that Everton star John Stones is the toughest opponent he has faced.

Winnall has been creating waves with Barnsley this term and the striker was recently named League One Player of the Month.

In a recent question and answer session with the Daily Mail, Winnall spoke candidly regarding various topics and revealed that Everton centre-half Stones is the toughest opponent he has come up against.

The 25-year-old said: "John Stones. We played Everton earlier this year (Barnsley lost 5-3 at home in the League Cup in August).

"Considering he's very young and inexperienced, he was very hard to play against because he gave me nothing.

"I had to be at my best to score in the game, which I did, so that was pleasing. He just read the game so well for a player that's relatively young. That's what I was so impressed with.

"He was strong, too, which kind of surprised me. You look at his frame and he's quite tall and slender, but he was strong and used his body really well."
