Everton star Jagielka reveals England plans

Phil Jagielka wants to take the next step in his career and become a key player for England.

The Everton defender has been used sporadically by Roy Hodgson in recent times but ahead of the friendlies against Republic of Ireland on Wednesday and Brazil in Rio, has made it clear that he wants to become a firdst choice centre-back in the Three Lions setup.

"Maybe I am putting too much pressure on myself if I look in the mirror and say: 'Best liven up'," the 16-times capped Jagielka told The Guardian.

"I will come and play and if I get the opportunity I will play as well as I can.

"If he keeps me in the team I will be absolutely delighted and if I do not get the opportunity I will keep working hard and go from there. I am not going to put too much pressure on myself. I will take it as it comes and hopefully if you speak to me in a year's time I will have had a few more caps. And maybe I will be a little more arrogant."
