Everton skipper Neville to strap on the pads after retirement

Everton captain Phil Neville has his sights set on a cricket career once his football playing days are over.

The former Manchester United midfielder was a star cricketer at youth level, playing in junior county teams, and was tipped to play for England at one stage.

36-year old Neville decided on football but the ex-England international says he will certainly pick up a bat and ball when he calls his retirement at Goodison Park.

"One hundred per cent, I will play cricket again in a couple of years' time if my career ends," Neville told The Bolton News.

"That is the first thing I am going to do; I am going to get back doing something I love.

"People sometimes fear retirement but I am looking forward to it because I can go and do something I love.

"To get the chance at my stage in my life to get back involved with Lancashire is great because I love going to Old Trafford to watch."
