Everton skipper Neville emotional during farewell game

Everton captain Phil Neville admits it was an emotional day during victory over West Ham United.

The 36-year-old will depart Everton at the end of the season, with manager David Moyes doing likewise.

"I'm not really an emotional guy," he insisted. "But today I was watching the game, I came to the ground with a real buzz and an anticipation. As the game wore on I got the butterflies in my stomach because I knew what the club had planned, with the guard of honour.

"I was petrified - you don't think yourself worthy of that kind of ovation and it did get to me. It's one of those occasions that you will remember for the rest of your life.

"It was a fantastic day and to share my farewell with the man who is the reason why I am here is extra special.

"I have given everything I can to Everton Football Club. I class Everton as my family as well now."
