Everton captain Phil Neville heaped praise on Phil Jagielka for his comeback performance in defeat at Tottenham.

Neville was delighted for his fellow defender and knows that his presence will be key in the final 10 weeks of the domestic campaign.

Neville told evertonTV: "He was fantastic. He had 40 minutes against Sporting Lisbon and 45 minutes on Sunday - it's like money in the bank for Jags.

"It's probably sooner than what he expected, but he's that kind of character and he just warms to occasions like that - you can throw him back in, no problems. We've seen today that he helped us out in the second half, playing two against two at the back, and it was no problem.

Neville added: "He's going to be a big player between now and the end of the season, but the thing is that he's going to be fresh."
