Everton captain Phil Jagielka is delighted he has been joined in England's World Cup squad by Ross Barkley.
Barkley has been on Jagielka's radar since murmurs began at Goodison Park about a precocious talent in the club's academy.
"When he was about 13, because he was bigger than everyone else there was a lot of talk," said Jagielka. "You always hear about the kids who are coming through. We had Jose Baxter who was 16 but we also heard that there was another young lad as well when Ross was 14 or 15 at the time.
"He had a couple of injuries that put him back but because he was so mature in his physique he was hanging around the first team and probably not getting enough game time himself.
"So he went out on loan a couple of times, found his feet and when the new manager [Roberto Martinez] came in he put a lot of faith in him."
