Everton signing Schneiderlin hits back at Rooney critics

Everton signing Morgan Schneiderlin has hit out at critics of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney.

Rooney has taken stick despite going level with Sir Bobby Charlton as United's leading goalscorer, with his critics saying he no longer merits a starring role at the club.

But Schneiderlin says Rooney is not treated with the respect he deserves.

He said: “Wayne just gets on with the job. He's a legend. He's a guy who everyone criticises when he has one or two bad games.

"But look at his stats. Look at what he's done in his playing career – it's just unbelievable.

“You have to respect that. But, of course, stories are made up about him every time.

“I know it hurts him because he wants to be recognised for what he does on the pitch.

“And what he does on the pitch is just amazing. I hope he's going to break this record very soon. He's someone you are very lucky to have in England."
