New Everton signing Lucas Neill has thanked his Australian teammate Tim Cahill for helping him settle. The former Blackburn Rovers and West Ham captain signed a one-year deal with the Toffees last week but did not play against Rovers at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Ahead of tonight's Carling Cup clash with Hull City, Neill praised Cahill for helping him in his first week as an Everton player.
"It's been amazing! Everyone's made me feel very at ease," he told the club's official website.
"I feel as though I've been here for a long time already and obviously there's the added bonus of Timmy being here to show me around. It's been really easy for me."
Neill did admit that he helped Cahill settle in England years ago and the fact that he has been in the country for some time has made the transition into Everton much easier than if he was to move abroad.
"Yes I did (help Tim settle in England), but we were a lot greener then!" he added.
"We were teenagers and we've had a lot of games under our belts since then and we both know the Premier League. I also know this area fairly well since my time at Blackburn so settling in has been easy to do."
The 31-year old added further that he was delighted to have again qualified for the World Cup with the Socceroos but said at the moment he was keen to perform for his new club.
"To get to one World Cup was amazing and the impact it had on the country was incredible and to be able to go there again and to qualify in the style we did was a really great effort," Neill said.
"For me there is no prouder moment than to be captain of your country and to lead the team to the World Cup.
"But that's 10 months away and for now all I am concentrating on is Everton and getting myself to a level of form and fitness so that I can be competing every week."
