Everton's Yakubu recovering slowly

Everton striker Yakubu is on the mend after a serious rupture of his Achilles in November.

The Nigerian star underwent surgery for the injury and is now on the road to recovery, albeit very slowly.

"Yak is making slow progress at the minute," Toffess manager David Moyes told the club's official website.

"His leg is still in plaster and the only change is that he gets the elevation of it altered by five degrees every couple of weeks.

"He can't do anything at the moment in terms of exercise or rehabilitation talk as it is still too early for him and the wound from his operation still relatively fresh.

"As that is the case, the doctors don't want him doing anything yet as they don't want any sweat or infection to get into the wounds.

"Considering the injury that he sustained, he is relatively good spirits and we are seeing him every couple of days.

"As yet, though, we don't know when he will start training again.

"The initial diagnosis was that he would be on the sidelines for nine months and we won't rush that as it was such a serious injury.

"We don't want any setbacks at this stage."
