Bryan Oviedo is aware that he may have to slightly alter his natural game in order to keep himself in Ronald Koeman's plans.
The Costa Rican left-back has long acted as Leighton Baines' deputy at Goddison Park since arriving from FC Copenhagen in 2012 but has found himself starting the past four matches while the England international again recovers from injury.
Oviedo enjoyed his best spell with the Toffees playing in an attacking full-back role under Roberto Martinez but he knows that Koeman brings with him a different outlook on the game which has forced him to rein in the frequency in which he overlaps forward.
"Maybe I am not expected to play that differently," said Oviedo in the Liverpool Echo.
"It is the same aspects but maybe I have to be more concentrated on the defensive balance because they (the Everton coaching staff) like to be very good on the defensive balance.
"It is very important for the team. When we have possession and are on the attack you have to be a very clever full-back because we create the balance of the team.
"Yes, I like to play going forward but there are moments when I need to be more controlled and if we are attacking on the right then I need then we need balanced on the left and we need to work together as a team."
Regarding his role at Eveton, Oviedo is happy to continue working hard for Koeman in order to take any chance that happens to me his way.
He added: "It is not easy because you want to play every time.
"But you need to know that you are an important part of the team and you need to be working hard all the time because in the moment you don't expect, you have a chance and you need to be ready for that.
"Sometimes, if you are not ready you can't say anything afterwards.
"I am so happy at the moment because I have a chance to play and I am trying to do the best for myself and for the team and I hope to continue playing and I will be ready for the next game."
