Everton's Naismith facing Scotland ban

Steven Naismith could miss Scotland's next two World Cup qualifying matches due to suspension.

The Everton forward clashed with Serbia's Srdan Mijailovic in the 0-0 draw at Hampden Park in their Group A opener on September 8 but only now has the incident been reported.

Neither referee Jonas Eriksson and match delegate Christian Schmolzer mentioned the off-the-ball clash in their match reports but it has been confirmed that FIFA have now launched an enquiry into Naismith's apparent elbow which could see him banned for a couple of matches on video evidence.

The Scotland team believe that a group rival notified FIFA in an attempt to weaken Craig Levein's side for away fixtures against Wales and Belgium next month as Serbia did not make a complaint after the match.
