James McFadden has spoken out about his injury nightmare which he felt may have ended his playing days earlier this year.
The 28-year old Scottish forward has returned to English Premier League club Everton on a deal which runs until the end of the season but he has revealed there was a stage where he thought his career was over following a serious knee injury sustained about a year ago with Birmingham City.
"I'd got back into training in March then broke down again," McFadden said.
"When I spoke to the surgeon he said my time might be up. That was very hard to take.
"At that time Birmingham had an option on my deal but decided not to take it, which was fair enough.
"Thankfully, every time I went to the specialist there was improvement, until he was happy for me to return training."
