Everton's Lennon detained over mental health fears

According to the Daily Mirror, police have detained Everton winger Aaron Lennon over fears for his mental health.

The former Leeds and Tottenham star has appeared 13 times for the Toffees this season, and the club is fully behind the 30-year old.

"Aaron Lennon is currently receiving care and treatment for a stress-related illness," said Everton via a club issues statement.

"The club is supporting him through this and his family has appealed for privacy at this time."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed: "Police were called at around 4.35pm on Sunday, April 30, 2017 to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man. Officers attended and a 30-year-old man was detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and was taken to hospital for assessment."
