Everton's Jagielka: I attempt to stay away from Lukaku at training

Phil Jagielka has revealed he tries to stay away from Romelu Lukaku at Everton training because he doesn't want to get torn apart.

England defender Jagielka believes the Chelsea loanee is that good that he doesn't even want to take him on at Finch Farm in a bid to keep his reputation intact.

"He's definitely a handful," said the Everton skipper of Lukaku following his brace in Monday night's 3-2 win over Newcastle United.

"I try to stay away from him in training, to be honest!

"He has all the attributes and he loves playing football, and if you put it all together, then it can lead to some interesting days on the training pitch for us defenders.

"He's a real presence up front. Obviously he wasn't quite getting the nod at Chelsea and that's made him even hungrier than he was last season (when he scored 17 goals for West Bromwich Albion).

"He's a fantastic acquisition for us. He's a great player and has probably taken us up to that next level. If he can keep himself fit and keep himself confident, he could be great for us."
