Everton's Jagielka confident of full fitness for England

Phil Jagielka is supremely confident that he will be at peak fitness before the World Cup.

The Everton defender sustained a hamstring injury in February which kept him out for around two months before his return just under a month ago.

Jagielka has been working on his fitness during the England training camp and plans to continue stepping up his work as he strives to be at 100% for the Three Lions' World Cup opener against Italy in Manaus on June 14.

"It was an important week last week, getting out to Portugal to get a few more sessions under my belt, and we had a really good session today," Jagielka told reporters.

"I do not need to be 100 per cent fit this week. It is more about building up and getting match practice before we go out to Miami, hopefully timing it perfectly for the opening group game."

On his chances of starting for Roy Hodgson in Brazil, Jagielka added: "I am not guaranteed to play but I am in a better position than I was two years ago (at Euro2012).

"I have played a decent role in the qualifying campaign to get us to Brazil and it would be nice to get some game time and be part of a successful team."
