Everton's Jagielka braced for stern Newcastle test

Phil Jagielka is well aware that Everton are in for a tough showing when they take on Newcastle United tonight.

The Toffees host the Magpies at Goodison Park and although the visitors possess a couple of dangerous strikers in Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse, Jagielka says he will relish the defensive job he will undertake.

"Newcastle are up there competing and had a fantastic campaign last season," he told evertonfc.com.

"Cisse took all the plaudits when he arrived with the goals he scored. Demba Ba led the way before he came so it was two great signings for them.

"You don't want to play against people who aren't expected to score but who then do so - it makes you look bad.

"So you want to be playing against these guys who are expected to score goals for fun because of you stop them it breeds confidence. Myself and the rest of the defenders prefer to play against those who everyone has come to watch.

"Hopefully we will stop them playing well."
