Everton star Tim Cahill has been backed by the owner of the Trademark Hotel in regards to allegations of him being involved in a drunken incident. Mim Salvato has confirmed that Cahill did nothing wrong at the Kings Cross venue despite conflicting stories in the media recently.

In response to talk that Cahill had behaved in an ill-mannered fashion, Salvato told the Sun-Herald, "The bar was closing and everybody at the place was asked to leave.

"It wasn't just Tim. Because the bar was closing, Tim was refused service.

"As he was leaving somebody recognised him and started charging towards him. One of the security guards didn't know who the person was and stopped him from getting any closer to Tim. That's what must have been mistaken as Tim assaulting someone or somebody being pushed or something like that."

Salvato said that one of the contracted security guards came up with a story for the media that was seemingly untrue.

"He came out of nowhere and of course we didn't know he was going to come forward and say something," he added.

"You can't stop people from trying to make money or whatever out of saying things. We don't really know why he said what he said.

"He has come up with a story about something that didn't happen. We definitely can't have a person like that on again."

Salvato also said that the venue was a place the Socceroos player frequented when they were in Sydney and said he had no issue with Cahill or any of the players celebrating.

"People need to understand Tim's just played 50 or 60 games, this is the first time he's been out in Sydney with his friends in a long time. People are jumping all over it but there wasn't an issue. Nothing like what has been reported ever happened," he said.

"Tim and the Socceroos players have been coming there for a while. [They] are welcome any time."
