Everton returnee McFadden rejected Celtic for another Premier League chance

The agent of James McFadden has explained the reasons for his clients decision to snub a lucrative offer from Scottish giants Celtic.

The 28-year old forward yesterday signed a short-term deal with former club Everton and his representative, Rob Segal, highlighted that a return to the Premier League was the overriding factor for the move.

"Why would someone turn down the chance to join Celtic for the Premier League? The answer is very simple. He just wanted to play in the highest standard possible," Segal said.

"James wants to play at the best level he can. It's very hard to argue that's not in the Premier League."

Segal added: "The lure of playing for Celtic was massive. He came very close, believe me, and made a tough decision.

"But James feels he has unfinished business in the Premier League.

"He's been to hell and back the last few years with injury. Now he wants to show the people he can still play at that level.

"I think he feels he's got something to prove and that ultimately made his mind up over who he signed for.

"Maybe one day he will sign for Celtic - if they still wanted him.

"He's still young enough to make an impact and I think that's something he can't turn down."
