Everton are only interested in a loan deal for Sunderland winger Adam Johnson.
The People says Roberto Martinez is on the lookout for a winger and the Black Cats are prepared to offload the 26-year-old England international.
However, the Toffees are unwilling to pay a fee to take the former Manchester City playmaker permanently.
But they are prepared to exercise the option of a temporary move with Martinez having enjoyed success in the loan market last season after capturing both Gareth Barry and Romelu Lukaku just before the window slammed shut.
