Everton fullback Luke Garbutt says Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney would be welcome back at Goodison Park.

Rooney has had to settle for a place on the bench in United's last three matches and Gareth Southgate has decided to drop him for England's World Cup qualifier in Slovenia tomorrow.

In an interview for the Football Hour podcast, Garbutt said: "If you put him into any team he's going to improve it.

"Why wouldn't you have him back at Everton?

"Stranger things have happened haven't they?"
