Everton plan to step up bid for Wigan midfielder McCarthy

Everton hope to land Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy this week.

The Daily Mail says McCarthy, 22, has held talks with Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni about leaving Wigan and would enjoy working with manager Roberto Martinez again at Everton.

He would not come cheap though with Wigan looking for around £15million hence the need for Everton to get optimum price from Manchester United for Marouane Fellaini.
