Everton now boast a bigger club transfer record than city rivals Liverpool.
The Liverpool Echo says Everton broke their transfer record last night, when they agreed a fee with Swansea City of £40m, rising to £45m, for Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson.
But the size of the fee was significant across Stanley Park, too.
For the first time in nearly quarter of a century, Everton's record transfer fee was greater than their neighbours.
Mo Salah's transfer fee at Liverpool has been advertised at £36.9m down – and could rise to £43.9m with add ons, still short of Sigurdsson's total fee.
