Everton No2 Steve Round praised their defence after a 1-0 friendly defeat at Werder Bremen.

Everton No2 Steve Round praised their defence after a 1-0 friendly defeat at Werder Bremen.

A first half goal from Bremen striker Sandro Wagner separated the sides, as the Blues lost for the second time in their pre-season programme.

The Blues back four defended bravely at the Weserstadion and Round told evertonfc.com they will now concentrate on creating more chances at the other end.

"They are a good side, they play in a top league and are a little bit further ahead of us in many respects," Round told evertonfc.com.

"I thought we defended really well and I thought that both goalkeepers and the back four got a really good workout and we defended set plays really well which is important for us," he added.

"But our attacking play wasn't quite there tonight, we didn't create enough chances and enough opportunities tonight and that gives us something to work on in the next 10 days."
