Everton No2 Steve Round feels Leon Osman is on the brink of England recognition.
Osman impressed in the 4-1 friendly win over Bury on Friday night.
Round told evertontv: "He was the best player on the pitch by far.
"He dictated out in the middle of the field and got the passing going. Towards the end of last season he was terrific and hopefully he can continue that."
Round was part of the England setup under Steve McClaren and revealed that Osman had been close to a call up then. He still believes the academy product has what it takes to perform at the top level.
He continued: "I have thought that for a while - when I was in the fold he was discussed at length and he's a terrific little player.
"He takes the ball in pressure situation and can manipulate on both feet, much like the Spanish players can."
