Everton News: Unsworth delighted with Kenny; Happy to stay in charge

Everton caretaker boss David Unsworth is delighted with the progress of Jonjoe Kenny.

Kenny has followed up his summer Under-20 World Cup success with England by establishing himself as Everton's first-choice right-back.

“Jonjoe is getting better every week, isn't he," Unsworth told evertontv. “He is a terrific talent.

"He is somebody I know so well and he looks at home in the Premier League."

Kenny has admitted he owes Unsworth a debt of gratitude for the faith the former Toffees centre-back has invested in him.

“Unsy had been brilliant for me," said Kenny. “He has backed me and played me, which is all I can ask for from a manager – for him to back me.

“The lads really enjoy playing under him. I have been with him three or four years and he has been brilliant.

“I know how he wants to play and he is getting it into the lads now. The lads are understanding how he wants us to perform, now it is (a case of taking it) step by step, game by game."

Meanwhile, Unsworth will remain in charge for the Europa League tie with Atalanta tomorrow night.

Unsworth is working on a game-to-game basis as Everton's search for a permanent boss heads into a fifth week.

Ronald Koeman was sacked on October 23 and Unsworth has been in charge for the five matches since.

Unsworth will take today's media conference, as he continues with his “extended opportunity" on Thursday night.

Everton's defeat to Lyon earlier this month confirmed they can no longer progress to the knockout stages.
