Everton and Newcastle United are set to battle for Lazio midfielder Gaby Mudingayi.

Both Premiership clubs had scouts in the stands to watch Mudingayi in action for Belgium in this week's 3-2 Euro2008 qualifying victory over Serbia.

Lazio will put up a big fight to hold onto Mudingayi, who is mainstay of coach Delio Rossi's first team.
