Everton must up their bid to land Benfica defender Luisao.

The Daily Mail says Everton have had a bid for Benfica defender Luisao knocked back as David Moyes looks to replace Joleon Lescott.

Moyes finally lost Lescott to Manchester City for £22million this week and hoped to reinvest £10.5m to land Brazilian Luisao.

But, according to reports in Portugal, Benfica will only consider an offer closer to the £17.5m buy-out clause in Luisao's contract.
