Everton midfielder Rodwell, De Gea fit Man Utd boss Ferguson wanted list

Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea are on Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's summer shopping list.

Ferguson hinted both players fit the prototype he is seeking ahead of the close-season market opening.

A goalkeeper is Ferguson's top priority with veteran Dutchman Edwin van der Sar set to retire at the end of the season and Atletico Madrid's De Gea is tipped for a move to Old Trafford.

De Gea and Rodwell, both 20, top Ferguson's list as the Scot has placed an emphasis on buying the best youngsters.

He said: "What we are good at is bringing young players to the club, like Chicharito (Javier Hernandez) for example.

"If you look at how, over the last six to eight years, we've brought in young players like (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Wayne) Rooney - okay, one was 17, the other was 18 - we're good at that. I don't see why we should change from what we're good at."
